History

Angelica Maria Ayar was born in San Francisco to immigrant parents from Mexico. While Angelica's parents worked double shifts to support her and her family, Angelica was raised by her grandmother, Elena. As a child, Angelica witnessed the difficulties her family experienced as undocumented immigrants and the divorce of her parents. Angelica vowed to help her community and with her native ability to speak both English and Spanish, she decided to become a lawyer and start her own practice. It is her passion and commitment to helping others move forward in their life that drives her career and her life.  

 

Angelica Maria Ayar nació en San Francisco de padres inmigrantes de México . Mientras que sus padres trabajaban doble turno para mantenerla a ella ya su familia, Angelica fue criada por su abuelita, Elena. Cuando era niña, Angelica fue testigo de las dificultades que sufrieron su familia como inmigrantes indocumentados y con el divorcio de sus padres. Ella se comprometió a ayudar a su comunidad y decidió convertirse en abogada para ayudar a la comunidad y las personas y familias a seguir adelante. Angelica M. Ayar, ESQ.

Angelica is a native English and Spanish speaker and was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area by Mexican parents. She obtained two degrees from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). During her time in Los Angeles, she worked at Virgin America and volunteered as a mentor for young Latinas in the low-income neighborhood of East Los Angeles. In 2013, she obtained her law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and was admitted into the State Bar of California that same year. As a law student, she was a member of the Hastings Race and Poverty Law Journal and the Race Law Students Association. She was elected as the Internal Vice President of UC Hastings' student government (ASUCH). Due to her love of oral advocacy and direct-client services, she graduated from UC Hastings with a concentration in Civil Litigation.

Angelica clerked at the Law Offices of John L. Burris during her last year of law school. John Burris is well-known for his work in high-profile excessive force cases such as Rodney King, the Oakland Riders, and more recently the Oscar Grant BART shooting. As a clerk, she was part of the staff who provided support for the early stages of litigation in excessive force, personal injury, and employment cases. In this capacity, she reinforced her confidence and honed her skill set in the context of client intake and pre-trial preparation. She still maintains a relationship with the Law Offices of John Burris and the office frequently refers cases to her.

Angelica is currently an active member of the San Mateo County Bar Association, and the Treasurer of the San Mateo County Barristers section. She also servers on the Santa Clara County Bar Association Modest Means Panel and is a volunteer Attorney at Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, assisting low-income asylum and refugee clients. 

During her free time, she enjoys baking and spending time with her family. 

Angelica fue criada en San Francisco, CA por padres Mexicanos y habla el Español y Inglés. Ella obtuvo dos títulos de la Universidad de California en Los Angeles. Durante su estancia en Los Angeles, trabajó en Virgin America y se ofreció como un mentor para las jóvenes latinas en el barrio de bajos ingresos del Este de Los Angeles. En 2013, ella obtuvo su título de abogado en la Universidad de California, Hastings College of the Law y fue admitida a la barra de abogados de el estado de California en el 2013. Como estudiante de derechos, ella fue miembro de Hastings Race and Poverty Law Journal y de La Raza Law Students Association. Ella fue elegida como el interno vicepresidente de gobierno estudiantil de UC Hastings ( ASUCH ).
